Differentiated Workstations • Presentation Overview: This demonstration explains what workstations are, how to use them in the classroom and why they make effective tools for meeting the needs of each student based on specific data points. • Presentation Goals: The goal of this demonstration is to help educators learn how to create data driven workstation groups. Educators will learn how to prepare and implement seamless workstations. They will also have allotted time to create resources for immediate use.

Literacy Workstations Verses Centers Literacy Work Stations Traditional Centers Stations remain up all year and are used for meaningful learning. Visit work stations daily Differentiated material for each group that have been previously viewed Teacher meet with small flexible groups Students LOVE this model! Centers are changed weekly with new material(not previewed) Visit as an early finisher activity If the teacher met with small groups, each group often did the same task.

Tips for Establishing Successful Work Stations • 1. Focus on procedures first. • 2. Aim for simplicity. Less is more. • 3. Increase your pace and expectation throughout the year. • 4 .Revisit procedures and expectations routinely. • 5. Enjoy this time with your kids.

Workstation Expectations • Set clear expectations on day • 1. Stay at you workstation. • 2. Only speak with individuals in your group. • 3.Use your whisper voice. • 4. If you have a question about your assignment, ask your group members. • 5. Show respect to your group members with words and actions.

Implementation • Week 1: Introduce one workstation(Whole group) and set clear expectations • Week 2: Introduce new workstation(whole group) • Week 3: Introduce Computer Work Station. Implement use of two workstations • Week 4: Implement fluency, word work and computer workstations. • Week 5: Implement all four workstations. • Decide the order of implementation(fluency & Word Work)
