Texas 21st CCLC • Description: The Texas 21st CCLC program is designed to ensure highly effective extended learning opportunity programs to assist students in meeting academic standards in core academic subjects (math, reading, science, social studies). Program activities in Texas 21st CCLCs must be designed as innovative and interactive, using new and unique hands-on methods of instruction to assist student learning and the ability to make connections, which can be utilized during the regular school day. • Purpose: The purpose is to provide high-quality extended learning opportunities outside of the regular school day to students in need of academic assistance by developing highly effective and rigorous programs. • Objective: Improve academics, Improve attendance, Improve behavior, Increase promotion rates, Increase graduation rates.

  3. QuEStCenter Operations • Centers are to begin services on September 8th 2009. • Program must offer 15 hours a week and service a total of 233 students. (students will be placed on a waiting list, once the program meets capacity.) • Services will extend for a total of 37 weeks with 4 weeks during the summer. • Program hours for Bowie Monday-Friday 5 hours a week during the am at 7:00a.m.-8:00.m. and 10 hours during the pm at 4:00p.m.-6:00p.m. • Bus Transportation will be provided for students

QuEStActivity Components • Four-component Activities: Academic Assistance, Enrichment, Family and Parental Support Services, College and Workforce Readiness • Activities must be offered in each component area; Tied to the needs assessment provided by the campus Task-force. • Activities must be consistent, dependable, innovative, and interactive.

QuEStActivity Components • Example of Academic Activities: Book Clubs, Girls Club (journals), Mad Science, Leadership Materials • Example of Enrichment Activities: Wii Club, Video Production, Martial Arts • Example of Family and Parental Support Services: ESL Tutoring for Parents, Continuing Education, Parent Involvement • Example of College and Workforce Readiness: GED Preparations, Leadership Materials, Career Counseling

  6. QuEStApproval & Application • Students Eligibility: Parents must register students before accepted into the program through an application process • Staff: All staff interested in working with QuESt must fill out an Afterschool Activity form and turn it in to Ms. Jacobs on or before Thursday August 27, 2009.
