“Numb” By Linkin Park Theme: Rejecting your life’s work will bite you in the butt one day. Produced By Laura Hernandez
I’m tired of being what you want me to be… Upon the commencement of his existence, Frankenstein’s monster is alone because he is hated by his own creator. He didn’t brand himself a “daemon” – Frankenstein did.
Feeling so faithless, lost under the surface… The monster feels invisible to those who seem most capable of reaching out to him and loving him.
Don’t know what you expect me to be, put under the pressure of walking in your shoes… Frankenstein loses faith in his monster ever becoming a being of good after he goes after the ones he loves.
(Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow) It symbolizes fate. Frankenstein’s monster cannot escape his destiny. It has been written to him by the pattern of the world he was born into.
Every step that I take is another mistake to you… (Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow) Frankenstein thinks of the monster as nothing more than a science experiment gone too far, an abortion, a “wretch”. It screws the monster up emotionally.
I’ve become so numb, I can’t feel you there No matter how hard the monster tries, the world just isn’t ready to accept him. He can not connect to humanity.
Become so tired, so much more aware The monster realizes he can do whatever the hell he wants, fueled by his bitterness against humanity.
I’m becoming this, all I want to do is be more like me Frankenstein’s monster wants to love and be loved in a world that is repulsed by his outward appearance. He’s just as human as everyone else, regardless of his creator’s plans for him.
And be less like you! Dr. Frankenstein is the real monster – not his creation!
Can’t you see that you’re smothering me… A metaphor. Chasing his own monster down is not going to do Frankenstein any good, as things occur in the very last chapters.
Holding too tightly, afraid to lose control… Allusion: As all of this happens, Frankenstein will go mad due to the emotional distress of creating a monster who murders people… innocent people.
Cause everything that you thought I would be has fallen apart right in front of you! Frankenstein relates to himself as his world just about ends. He made the mistake of his life trying to attempt anything close to a recreated humanity.
(Chorus Repeat And every second I waste ismore than I can take!) This is just sad. The monster is basically feeling rather suicidal and questioning his existence and whether he should end it himself.(;~;)
(Chorus Repeats) This song emphasizes the theme. Frankenstein should have stuck to his product.
