  2. Watch the video. Compare with Mk 6:30-44 Identify differences & similarities between the video and the text. Answer the questions about the miracle according to your gospel: Where was Jesus and with who? What was the problem? Why did the disciples reject Jesus’ suggestion that they go and buy food? What did Jesus ask them next? What was their answer? What did Jesus tell them to do then? What did Jesus himself do? What was the result? **Why do you think Jesus first suggested to the disciples to buy food?

Jesus is not irritated by the crowd but takes pity on them as they are desperate for guidance - he “feeds” them on his teaching. • People felt like an army grouped in 50’s/ 100’s following their leader • Just like Moses – when the people were hungry in the desert, Moses prayed to God & God sent manna (like flour) from heaven Shepherd of a caring for sheep is image of the coming Messiah just like the Eucharist - Jesus takes, blesses, breaks & hands out Jesus’ body feeds, strengthens & satisfies us spiritually. • Jesus recognised & responded to physical needs. A huge crowd was fed by little food.

  7. Jesus takes pity on crowd (not irritated by them) as they are desperate for guidance - he teaches them for many hours. He “feeds” them on his teaching- they are hungry for truth. Jesus takes, blesses, breaks & hands out food - it feeds, strengthens & satisfies the people, just like the Eucharist feeds, strengthens & satisifies us spiritually by Jesus’ body. Importance of the Story • Jesus recognised & responded to physical needs. A huge crowd was fed by little food. • 5 loaves 2 fish ( 5 books of Moses, 2 tablets of 10Cs) • People felt like an army in 50’s/ 100’s following a leader • After leaving Egypt, Moses prayed to God for food – God sent manna from heaven every day, (except Sunday).
