  3. The Carbon Trust’s Mission • To accelerate the transmission to a low carbon economy by helping organisations to reduce their carbon emissions and develop low carbon technologies.

  4. How the Carbon Trust is pursuing its mission • Over 5,400 site visits have provided practical hands-on advice to a range of organisations. • It is now working directly with 32 FTSE 100 companies and thousands of other businesses and organisations. • It holds seminars and training events for businesses. • It supports applied research.

  5. What can the Carbon Trust do for you? • All companies can receive assistance. • Depending on the size of your energy bill, this could range from simple advice over the telephone to an initial free survey of energy-saving opportunities on your site, possibly followed by further free or part-funded assistance to follow up the recommendations made.

  6. Contacting The Carbon Trust • Helpline: 0800 085 2005 • Web: www.thecarbontrust.co.uk • Email: helpline@thecarbontrust.co.uk

  7. Carbon Trust Products • The Carbon Trust offers assistance in a variety of ways, all aimed at helping its customers to achieve maximum carbon, energy and cost savings. • A number of these are likely to be appropriate to organisations in the Public Health sector.

  8. Opportunities assessments • For companies with higher energy bills, the Carbon Trust will pay a consultant to carry out a survey and prepare a Report which will identify initial energy-saving opportunities and provide estimates of their costs and benefits. • These surveys are free. • If a Company has implemented the recommendations made, it may be eligible for further assistance, either free or part-funded by the Carbon trust.

  9. Technology Modules • Specific studies of opportunities in areas such as: • Lighting. • Heating, ventilation and air conditioning. • Compressed air. • Energy measuring, monitoring and targeting.

  10. Detailed surveys • Usually follow an Opportunities Assessment. • To develop energy-saving opportunities not covered by technology modules. • Part-funded by the Carbon Trust.

  11. Combined Heat and Power Advice (CHP) • Carbon Trust pays an independent consultant to provide advice at key stages of a customer’s CHP project. • Note that typical payback periods for CHP installations are from 5 to 10 years, with 5000-8000 expected running hours per annum.

  12. Implementation Services • Aimed at larger, high-capital expenditure projects where a significant carbon-saving opportunity has been identified. • May range from a feasibility study through the development of a business case to performance specification and technical bid evaluation.

  13. Staff awareness and/or training • Either directly to a customer’s site or through a Carbon Trust event. • Given to individuals or teams about specific aspects of energy efficiency. • “Training a trainer” support may be provided by a consultant on site.

  14. Carbon Management (CM) • A strategic approach. • Appropriate for some larger companies, with energy bills exceeding £4 million per annum. • Part-funded by customer. • 5-stage process.
