EFFECTSOF western EXPANSION • Some miners found wealth, some did not • (ex) Comstock Lode in Sierra Nevadas • Boomtowns developed to provide miners w/ goods BUT some ended up as Ghost-towns • Native-Americans pushed onto reservations • Pollution of Streams, Destruction of forests & buffalo • Transcontinental Railroad employed 1000s.
