  9. 2014/17 Options Pathways mean: • More enjoyment • Better experience • Better results • Better prospects • Less disaffection • Less misbehaviour

  10. 2014/17 Options • First step in their 14 – 19 education or training. • Results at 16 open or close the doors for their next step. • All GCSE exams at the end of Y11.

  11. Core subjects • English – Language and Literature • Mathematics • Science – at least core and additional • Geography or History • RE

  12. Plus • ICT • PE • PDS – Careers Relationship education Drugs, alcohol and safety Finance, law and citizenship

  13. Pathways. • Equal value, but with small differences to suit the students. • All pathways have choices within them • Provides an experience that stimulates, motivates and extends ALL learners as well as preparing them for their next step.

  14. Blue pathway • Core curriculum - English, Maths, Science, RE, Geography/History • 2 vocational courses which are equivalent to GCSEs • 1 support class - developing essential basic skills

  15. Green pathway • Core curriculum - English, Maths, Science, RE, Geography/History • 2 vocational courses equivalent to GCSEs at grades A* - C. • 1 other course which maybe GCSEs or other equivalents.

  16. Red pathway • Core curriculum - English, Maths, Science, RE, Geography/History, MFL • Pupils get two other choices from GCSEs or equivalents.

  17. Purple pathway • Core curriculum - English, Maths, Science, RE, Geography/History, MFL • Allows the students to achieve the English Baccalaureate • Pupils get two other choices one of which will be a GCSE equivalent.

  18. How will pupils be guided? • Professional, realistic judgement. • The pathway will be relative to their ability, strengths and learning style. • Achievement, attainment and predictive data will be used. • Pastoral input. • Parental input. • Individual decisions.

Key dates • 07.01.14 - Information Evening • w/c 13.01.14 - Pathway information • w/c 20.01.14 - Subject assemblies • 31.01.14 – progress reports available • 04.02.14 – Year 8 Parents’ Eve • 05-10.02.14 – Option sheets to form tutors • 04/05.03.14 – Individual student discussions • 11/12.03.14 – Parental discussions • 13.03.14 – All options finalised

  20. Aim • For all students to enjoy school and achieve their full potential.
