  1. How to understand the work of a fashion designer Every student working on their bachelor of fashion design colleges in Maharashtra dreams of being a fashion designer one day. It is no doubt that the bachelor of fashion design courses in Mumbai is the first step in this direction to realize your dream. But most students have only a rosy picture of the profile of a fashion designer while no job comes with only one side. Fashion designers study the trends that are prevalent in the market, predict what the next trend might be, and sketch the initial clothing or an accessory as they deem suitable. To do this, they attend many trade shows, fashion shows, visit manufacturers to select the fabric, texture, color, etc., and visit other vendors to put a team in place. Fashion designers also conduct various fittings and adjustments on their prototypes before the end product is marketed to the retailers. They also oversee the entire product of the garment from the initial sketch to its manufacturing. But their job roles differ as per the type of company they work at as a portion of the population of fashion designers is employed with manufacturing and design firms. These people keep regular hours most of the time unless a project situation demands longer working hours. However, many of them work as freelancers or entrepreneurs. Fashion designers have terrible working hours, stressful work conditions, and almost no personal space or time. Working at a smaller firm also means more responsibility and more duties, which at a larger design house may be taken care of by separate teams. But do keep in mind that the stress conditions and work hours are dependent upon the project being for high fashion or the mass market. While some designers specialize in only one category, others may design for a range of clothes and accessories thus multiplying the stress levels as well. Also, every designer has to communicate with clients worldwide and the work usually involves extensive travel as well. This traveling might seem very attractive at present but a few years down the line, even travel shall add its degree of stress to the equation. One also does not turn into a fashion designer as soon as you graduate unless you are someone special in a lot of different ways. The usual course of career progression when you graduate is as a fashion design assistant who aids a fashion designer to help create their vision. The fashion design assistant helps with the physical part of the manufacturing like cutting of the parts, stitching, pattern-tracing, creative designs, etc. and is not usually involved in the creative part. Most graduates do not realize the role of an assistant when they are still at their bachelor of fashion design colleges in Maharashtra. But it is a good way to learn the ropes that no amount of education can provide. Many young graduates with a bachelor of fashion design courses in Mumbai abhor this drudgery and many give up. But this apprenticeship is necessary to ensure that a perfect fashion designer is created. This position is not the end of the line but only a step away from success.
