General Characteristics • General Characteristics of Mollusc • It belongs to invertebrates. • Habitat - Freshwater molluscs ex snail, oyster, mussel Marine molluscs ex squid, cuttle fish
General Characteristics • General Characteristics of Snails • Found in fresh water like ponds and slow moving streams. • Body is soft and enclosed in a spiral yellow color shell. • Spiral shell posses 6 ½ whorls • Top most whorl is the apex
General Characteristics • General Characteristics of Snails • Internally the soft body is covered by mantle and is divided into head, foot, and visceral organs. • Head bears a pair of stalked eyes and tentacles which act as a sensory organ. • Visceral marks include 2 external types of tissues called mantle
Mantle • Mantle • It’s a fold of muscular tissue found between the shell and the body of mullusc. • The mantle attaches the body to the shell and also helps to secrete the shell.
Mantle • Functions of Mantle Cavity • Carries excess water, ions and waste. • Helps to circulate water and nutrients.
