What is Motivating? The Progress Principle Amabile and Kramer collected over 12,000 daily diary entries from 238 of workers in 7 firms in 3 industries and analyzed “Inner Work Life” - and found these motivators: Making Progress on Work we Care About Removing Roadblocks Recognition
Visuals are Good For: • Many people think in visuals & metaphors • Teammates might have very different mental images – replace them with one shared visualization • Visuals can convey VAST amounts of data (vs. Mental buffer of 7 +/- 2) – i.e. Context But... • Visuals can over-simplify
