More Diversity • Recent immigrants are from Ethiopia and Soviet Union • Jews range from ultra-Orthodox to nonreligious • This can create conflict
Arabs • 20 % of population is Arab • Includes Christians, Muslims and Druzes(broke from Islam in 11th century) • Arabs are the minority group
Arabs • Arabs feel discriminated against in several areas such as • Education, employment and other areas • Arabs are seeking a stronger voice in Society
Cooperation and Conflict • Conflict began in 1947 with UN plan • Spurred on by immediate war in 1948 • Most Palestinians lost their homes in the war • 1967 War breaks out again 200,000 Palestinians fled
More Conflict • 1960’ PLO is formed • PLO= Palestinian Liberation Organization • The PLO does not recognize Israel as a country • PLO gains attention by extremist acts of terrorism
Struggle for a Solution • Many groups and world leaders have sought to help with establishing peace in the 1970’s until today. • Peace plans always seem to break down and violence went on the increase in the early 2000’s
