Why you have chosenEcuador • Education is very limited in the Chimbarazo Province. Only 10% go to secondary school • Extremely low literacy rate (40% for women) • Extreme poverty - defined as those living under $1 per day – includes almost 30 percent of Ecuador’s current population • School buildings are unsafe for students due to lack of funding for maintenance • Health issues due to lack of sanitation systems and poor nutrition • A lack of fresh drinking water in the communities

What to expect on tour… Your tour: Accommodations While in Quito, groups will stay at the Hotel San Francisco, located in the heart of the Old Town. In the Chimbarazo Province, accommodations will be dorm style cabins equipped with bunk beds, shared shelves and a light. The accommodations are private, relaxing facilities, surrounded by tropical gardens Meals All food is prepared specifically for your groups using bottled and purified water. Meals will include foods that participants will be familiar with such as fresh fruit and spaghetti. There will also be an opportunity to taste traditional Ecuadorian food such as Empanadas. Language The vast majority of Ecuadorians speak Spanish but many speak the ancient language of Quechua. You will learn the basics of Spanish to ensure smooth communication between your students and the local population. Your lead facilitator will be fluent in Spanish.
Your tour: What is the All-Inclusive insurance plan? Chismaute Chismaute is an Indigenous community high in the Andes Mountains, in the Chimborazo Province of Ecuador. The students walk 1km to school and because of the development in this community most children have an opportunity to have an elementary education. The still require more classroom buildings.
