Origin • Appian Way is one of the earliest and most strategic roads. • Appian Way was built by Appius Claudius Caecus, a Roman senator. • The primary section of road was started and completed in 312 B.C.
Importance • Appian Way was built for military use. • It played a major part in the 3rd Samnite War when it was completed. • Appian Way made moving troops and supplies to troops easier and more efficient.
