Purpose • You will be able to : • Recognize sexual harassment • Understand that sexual harassment is not the fault of the victim • Demonstrate how to respond to sexual harassment
Introduction/Definition • Sexual harassment is a violation of Title IX • No one is allowed to discriminate against another person based on race, religion, ethnic background, orientation or gender • Sexual harassment is discrimination or teasing that occurs because of your gender
Examples of Sexual Harassment • Teasing someone about their looks or body • Touching/grabbing someone’s body parts • Sexual insults or name-calling • Pressure for sexual activity • Excluding someone because of their gender
Reporting Harassing Reporting sexual harassment is very important! • Who did the harassing? • What did they do? • When did they do it? • Where did it occur? • How did it make you feel?
Summary • Answer student questions about sexual harassment • Remind students to be respectful of other students and adults • If they are harassed or threatened, tell an adult! • Distribute booklets: “SexualHarassment in Schools”
Activity: Case Scenarios • Divide students into small groups and assign a case study • Students answer these questions: • Is this sexual harassment? • Who is the harasser? • Who was harassed? • What can be done to stop the harassment? • Groups share their responses
