  1. Seoul National University

  2. History The origin of Seoul National University (SNU) dates back to the late nineteenth century when Korean Emperor Gojong established modern higher education institutions which later became part of SNU.  In 1895 Emperor Gojong issued Imperial Order 49 and established the National Law Academy as the first modern higher education institution in Korea. It turned out 209 graduates including the Martyr Yi Jun. 

  3. The Hansung Teacher Training School, the first modern teacher training school was built in the same year and later became the SNU College of Education.

Ecole des Mines de Paris - MINES Paris Tech(2009)reported that SNU is ranked 5th in the world in terms of the number of alumni currently holding CEO positions in Fortune 500 enterprises.  Prominent alumni are Ban Ki-moon (current Secretary-General of the United Nations), and LG and Samsung Electronics CEOs.

Seoul National University • was the first national university in South Korea (founded in 1946) • and has served as a model for the many national and public universities in the country. • has been regarded as the most prestigious of all post-secondary educational institutions in the country by the general public and consistently recruits top-notch high school students.

  9. has been recognized for its leading role in Korean academia, and entry into the university is viewed as a ticket to success. • SNU( Korean Educational Development Institute), spends more on its students per capita than any other university in the country enrolling at least ten-thousand undergraduates, more than one-and-one-half times its peer institutions.

  10. To join the international trend of learning, the university's international headcount is 242 or four percent of the total. Nobel laureates Paul Crutzen, Thomas Sargent , and Fields Medal recipient HironakaHeisuke are on the faculty roster.

Today Seoul National University …… • comprises colleges and six professional schools • with a student body of about thirty-thousand. • two campuses in Seoul: the main campus in Gwanak, and the medical campus (named Yeongeon Campus after its neighbourhood) in Jongno • notable for its "fleet-style“ system (offering diplomas for virtually every academic field, from aerospace engineering to Western history)

  15. Seoul National holds a memorandum of understanding with over 700 academic institutions in forty countries, including the country's first ever academic exchange program with the University of Pennsylvania.

Graduate School of Business offers dual master's degrees with Duke University, ESSEC, and the Peking University, double-degrees at the MIT Sloan School of Management and Yale School of Management, and upholds MBA-, MS-, and PhD-candidate exchange programs with universities in ten countries on four continents.

Facilities The University Library • the largest research library in Korea and includes 5 branches on the Gwanak campus and two branches on the Yongon Campus. • 3.5 million books, 350,000 e-books, about 8,000 print and 18,700 electronic journals, 96 DB, and 212,600 non-book materials. • all the collections on the English-language version website. It also provides Library Research Service to SNU faculty members.

  18. University Computer Center UCC provides the following IT services: • web hosting, laptop computer rental, camcorder rental, campus-licensed and software. • detailed information on their English-language version website. Institute of Laboratory Animal Resources • The role of the ILAR is to breed laboratory animals for research in the life sciences. The Institute has more than 12,000 mice and rats to provide SNU research groups at the price of one to seven USD. They have four kinds of mice (ICR, RALB/c, C57BL/6, and C3H/He) and two kinds of rats (SD and Wistar).

National Instrumentation Center for Environmental Management • established to promote a more rational and efficient use of expensive research equipment on campus. • offers research equipment rentals for reasonable fees to SNU community members and others. • has more than 100 kinds of equipment and you can search the list here. National Center for Inter-University Research Facilities • The purpose of NCIRF is to increase joint use of equipment through more rational and efficient operation and maintenance of expensive and advanced equipment.
