How diabetes develops • DIABETES develops for two reasons: • Pancreas stops working properly and does not make insulin • Pancreas makes too little insulin or the insulin does not work in body
Complications caused by Diabetes • Diabetes can severely damage many systems inyour bodyincluding: • Kidney damage. • Increased infections • Damage to the eyes • Damage to the nerves of the feet • Causing heart disease and stroke
TYPES OF DIABETES • Type 1 • Also called Insulin- dependent diabetes • This type of diabetes develops in young people andneeds regular insulin injections, • Type 2 • Non –insulin dependent diabetes • There is no need for injections, as can be controlled with balanced dietand exercise or medicines, when needed. • Type 3 • Gestational diabetes only affects pregnant women (usually about • 55 to 88%).
Statistics Millions of people died before scientists discovered insulin in 1921. At least 171 million people worldwide have diabetes. In 2000, 3.2 million people died. About 2 million Australians were reported to have diabetes in 2010.

Conclusion Diabetes is a very serious disease characterised by inability of one’s body to use glucose.
