How the 15 Girl Scout Leadership Experience Outcomes equip our girls to be leaders in their own lives and to change the world
Percentage of girls whose answering ‘a lot like me’, and ‘agree a lot’ or ‘agree’ to survey statements
This is what the girls are telling us about their experiences in the Girl Scouts of Orange County.
The Girl Scout Leadership Experience works… when fully implemented! Girl Scout Leadership Experience = Journeys + High Quality Process Experiences
Girl Scout Leadership Experience Processes * girls doing these indicates that they are engaged in the 3 processes
GSUSA 2012 study • Question being answered = What impacts the girls’ want to remain in Girl Scouts; what impacts their satisfaction with their experience? • Girls were asked about Journeys and processes, not other components such as product sale and camp • Girls who are satisfied with their Girl Scout experience stay in Girl Scouts • Satisfied girls are staying because the GSLE is being fully implemented • Fully implemented GSLE is primarily Leadership Journeys and the 3 Processes • Badges, higher awards, events, travel, series, product sale and camp are also important
GSUSA 2012 study • Girls who re registered for the 2013 membership year told us that being involved in Journeys and engaged in high quality girl led, cooperative learning and learn by doing experiences are why they wanted to stay! • Data from this study indicates that it is the adult-girl partnership that is key to the girls being engaged in Journeys and Processes • Understanding that the GSLE materials are not enough is important; the processes must be utilized and the adult girl partnership must be embraced!
Journeys + High Quality Process Experiences Girls having fun and remaining in Girl Scouts Higher Retention Rates Higher Achievement of Outcomes Girls equipped to be leaders and to change the world!
Take Aways Girls participating in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, under your amazing leadership, are being equipped with the skills and characteristics needed to be leaders in their own lives and to change the world! Based on GSUSA research we are seeing that girls who are engaged in a fully implemented GSLE program; primarily the Journeys and Processes, are more apt to remain in Girl Scouts. Girls remaining in Girl Scouts will have higher achievement in the 15 Outcomes and based on larger youth development research we know that Girl Scouts are more apt to be successful in school, celebrate diversity and be less inclined to get involved with drugs and alcohol.
