EANGUS • Largest enlisted reserve component association • Organized in SD in 1970 by Senior NCOs; incorporated in MS in 1972 • Our mission is to give a voice on Capitol Hill for Enlisted National Guard men and women, their families, and retirees • Longstanding member of The Military Coalition • Formed to work on compensation and benefits issues for service members, veterans, and their families • Speaks with one powerful voice to lawmakers • 35 member associations, representing almost 6 million members

8. EANGUS Highlights The following are some other issues that EANGUS has advocated on behalf of or are currently working on:1)      The National Guard Empowerment and State-National Defense Integration Act of 2011 –This legislation makes the chief of the National Guard Bureau and full and legal member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.  2)      The Honor America’s Guard –Reserve Retirees Act  - Currently, if members of the National Guard and Reserve have not served a qualifying period of Title 10 active duty service (180 days or more), they are not considered to be veterans under Federal law.  3)      Post-Deployment / Mobilization Respite Absence (PDMRA) Leave – Currently, National Guard soldiers and airmen who have been serving as operation force in the Middle East are often times deployed in excess of the DoD rotational frequency policy of one year mobilized and five years demobilized.  DoD implemented a policy change effective Oct. 1, 2011 which reduced the leave for deployed members that was promised to them under the policy in effect when they began their deployments.  H.R. 4045 and S. 2121 would grandfather units mobilized and deployed before October 1, 2011, under the old policy to allow them to return home with the leave originally promised to them.

9. NGAUS The association includes nearly 45,000 current or former Guard officers. It was created in 1878 to provide unified National Guard representation in Washington. NGAUS provides states and our members unified representation before Congress. The NGAUS legislative department is the lobbying branch of the association.  It seeks modern equipment, training, missions and personnel benefits for the Army and Air National Guard by lobbying Congress and the Executive Branch. The association’s communications department tells the Guard story in general and the NGAUS story in particular. This is accomplished through the monthly NATIONAL GUARD magazine, the weekly Washington Report electronic newsletter, as well as the association’s Web site and news media.

NGAUS Highlights FY 12 Accomplishments Created a permanent seat on the Joint Chiefs of Staff for the Chief of the National Guard Bureau Behavior health support for members of the Reserve Component during scheduled unit training assemblies Reemployment rights for Title 32 National Guard duty Expansion of state licensure exceptions for certain health care professionals to provide access to healthcare for National Guard soldiers in rural and remote areas
