UEFA Convention standards… • Organisation • Recruitment and retention • Observer system • Talent and Mentor System • Education – grassroots and elite level
Organisation - status • Stability in the work • Confidence in Referee Committee • Observers are now under full control of the Referee Committee • New Referee Manager employed • Excellent cooperation between the Football Development Centre (FDC) and the Referee Committee
Recruitment and retention – status • New recruitment system established • Based on e-learning • 3555 new referees in 2009. • Many young referees • Retention secured by local people • Physical training sessions every week keep people ”in business”.
Observer system - status • Observers are now under control of the Referee Committee. • No ”10 %-relegation” rule • Verbal evaluation after the match • Education of observers in: - match analysis - communication skills - verbal and written evaluation
Talent- and Mentorsystem - status • Pyramide structure on 3 levels of talents and mentors • 4 mentors on level 1 educated • 25 mentors on level 2 educated • Each mentor has 2 talents • Education in specifik skills to be a mentor
Education - status • Pyramide structure established: - National/Regional/Local (”Grassroots”) • Excellent cooperation between Football Development Centre (FDC) and educational subcommittee of Referee Committee. • Instructors` course has been held • Instructors have a very good knowledge of: - Laws of the game - Practical application - Teaching skills
Educational activities. • 2 seminars each year • 2 joined seminar for elite referees and selected instructors and observers • New uniform teaching material • Use of DVD-clips from UEFA and from domestic matches
What to do now? • Retention of the many new referees • Establish a structure of local mentor- and talent work (level 3) • Establish a structure with referee managers in the regions • Keep up the quality • Keep up the stability • Keep up the good work
