TEEN SUICIDE. INTRODUCTION. Nowadays, the problem of teen suicide is becoming more and more serious in Hong Kong. The suicide rate has reached about 4%. With referring to the information from Hong Kong Education Department, the number of students attempting suicide is 5 in 2000.

  2. INTRODUCTION • Nowadays, the problem of teen suicide is becoming more and more serious in Hong Kong. • The suicide rate has reached about 4%.

  3. With referring to the information from Hong Kong Education Department, the number of students attempting suicide is 5 in 2000. • The number has increased to 18 cases in 2001. That means the number of fatal cases and attempted cases of youth suicide increases every year.

  4. We need to seek a solution to solve the problem as soon as possible. • We have investigated: a)the main reasons of committing suicide,and b)the suggested solutions to solve the problem

  5. METHOD Questionnaire • In order to understand the attitudes of teenagers towards the problem, a questionnaire was designed. Subject • 60 teenagers filled out the questionnaires. Procedure • In these few weeks, each of our member distributed 10 questionnaires to the teenagers

  6. Questionnaire • 1) Have you ever thought of committing suicide? (Yes/No) • 2) If you have, please answer the following questions. • i) Why have you thought of committing suicide? • a. Family problem • b. Pressure from school or homework • c. Classmates • d. Love affairs • e. Public examinations • f. Others • ii) How many times have you thought of committing suicide? • a. 1 times • b. 2 –5 times • c. 6-9 times • d. Above10 times

  7. iii) How have you thought to commit suicide? • 3) Have you ever tried to kill yourself before? (Yes/No) • 4) If you have, please answer the following questions. • i) How old did you attempt to commit suicide? • a. 11-13 years old • b. 14-17 years old • c. 18-20 years old • d. Above 21 years old • ii)How did you commit suicide? • a. Jumping from a height • b. Taking drugs • c. Cutting wrist • d. Burning yourself • e. Others
