Intrusion Date and Duration • October 13, 2006 • Unhealthy readings in Burns • Lasted from 3 am through 9 am. • By 9 am PM 2.5 was back into moderate range. • No further intrusion resulted.
What happened?? • Smoke plume capped several thousand feet above unit. • Overnight the smoke flowed down Silvies river drainage and extended into town. • By 3 AM Nephelometer readings were in the unhealthy range.
Mitigations • 2 PSA’s issued via local radio station. • Aggressively moped up unit. • Cancelled any further ignition.
Future changes developed. • Verify smoke info has been submitted through FASTRACS to Salem. • Stress with Burn Boss the importance of following smoke forecasts along with the spot weather forecast. • Pay particular attention to the direction of smoke plume and anticipate night movements.
