  3. GPS and PLO ELA3W1. The student demonstrates competency for the writing process. The student: f. prewrites to generate ideas. The student will complete a graphic organizer for their color poem.

  4. A form of poetry that uses color to describe or compare things of that color. You begin each line of the poem with a color. You may decide to use one color or select a different color for each line. Color Poetry

  5. The words in your color poem does not have to rhyme. You may use the color or colors in your poem to illustrate each line of the poem. Color Poetry

  6. Prewriting During this stage students will select the color or colors they want to use for their poem. The students will consider the audience, purpose, and format of their writing during this stage.

  7. Prewriting The students will complete a graphic organizer to help brainstorm ideas for their color poem. The students will not worry about spelling and punctuation.

  11. Practice Activity The students will use the smart board and the shared pen technique to complete a graphic organizer for a class color poem. As a class, the students will choose the color for the poem.

  12. Assessment Activity The teacher will provide everyone with a copy of a blank graphic organizer. Each student will draw a color from a bowl and complete their own graphic organizer using the selected color.

  13. Assessment Activity The students will work individually to brainstorm ideas for their color poems. The teacher will circulate the classroom and encourage the students to use their five senses to generate ideas.

  15. GPS and PLO ELA3W1. The student demonstrates competency for the writing process. The student: f. develops a rough draft. The student will complete a rough draft for their color poem.

  16. Drafting During this stage students will use their graphic organizer to create a rough draft of their color poem. They will convert their ideas into complete sentences when writing their poem.

  17. Drafting Students will not worry about spelling and neatness. Students will skip lines when writing the rough draft of their color poem to leave room for revisions.

  18. Green (example) Green is apples, markers, and cool. Green is the taste of vegetables. Green smells like grass and rain. Green makes me feel envious. Green is the sound of a lawnmower and a sigh. Green is a garden, forest, and a swamp. Green is renewal. Green is beginning again. Green is spring.   19. Practice Activity The students will use the smart board and the shared pen technique to complete a class rough draft of a color poem. The students will choose the color for the poem as a class.

  20. Assessment Activity The students will use the graphic organizer they completed during the prewriting stage to construct a rough draft of a color poem. The students will be asked to skip lines to make room for revisions.
