Summary of Highlights • In all subject areas, SPS made larger gains from 2017 to 2018 than the state. • SPS made larger gains from 2017 to 2018 in ELA and Math average scaled score for grades 3-8 than the average of the highest poverty districts in the state. • Average scaled score in ELA for grades 3-8 increased overall and for African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos and students with disabilities. • In grade 10 average SGP increased for ELA and Math; proficiency rates increased for ELA, Math, and Science. • In grade 10 Math CPI increased overall and for African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, EL students, and students with disabilities. • In grade 10 Science CPI increased overall and for African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, and EL students. Summary of Highlights (continued) • Springfield’s four-year cohort graduation rate increased for the fourth consecutive year, from 54.9% in 2013 to 76.9% in 2017 (the most recent year data are available). • Out-of-school suspensions decreased from 2017 to 2018 by 599. The number of out-of-school suspensions has declined every year for the past 6 years. • The total number of arrests has decreased steadily since 2014, reaching the lowest total in 7 years at 75 in 2018. • 2018 had the highest number of AP course enrollments since 2012 at 1,250 and the current year’s enrollment is even higher at 1,265.
