Proposed Modification to the Draft 802.11ad Selection Procedure Date: 2009-09-24 Authors:
Context and Introduction • The purpose of this document is to provide context and background to a proposed change to the draft .11ad Selection Procedure document
Status of 802.11ad • A large number of companies have publically announced that they are participating in the development of a Complete Proposal • Given the scale of the effort, and number of companies involved in the creation of this Complete Proposal, there is limited incentive to create Proposals for New Techniques or competing Complete Proposals • However the companies involved in this Complete Proposal development effort, represent only a subset of the Affiliations of participants in 802.11
Unique Situation • Given the Unique Business Context for 802.11ad, it makes sense to provide an opportunity to 802.11 members to review the Complete Proposal submission(s), before submitting New Techniques or Enhancements, so they can be placed in the context of the Submitted Complete Proposal(s) • Proposal here is to modify the Proposed Selection Procedure by having the Presentation of Complete Proposals precede the Presentation of New Techniques / Enhancements to the Complete Proposal Bottom Line, Proposal is to Flip steps 5 and 6 in the Proposed Procedure
Proposed New Flow Step 4: Issue Call for New Techniques and Complete Proposals Step 5: Presentation of Complete Proposals Step 6: Presentation of New Techniques and Proposed Modifications to Complete Proposals Step 7: Strawpolls on Complete Proposals
Additional Detail • Assumption is that the Presentations for Step 6 (New Techniques and Proposed Modifications to Complete Proposals ) will happen during the IEEE session after the session during which Step 5 has been conducted. • Submissions with New Techniques or Proposed Modifications to existing proposals shall be posted to the mentor server 15 days prior to the session at which they will be presented
