Us c’nstownlireet wi’tlangwage The big talk • Every Thursday the whole school takes part in the big write • This is to Help raise attainment level in speaking, listening and writing. • The big talk is preparation for the big write • If a child can’t say it a child can’t write it. • a fun writing session that provides an opportunity for children to: • experiment writing different genres • have the time and the freedom to write • Improve creativity and imagination • Develop and experiment using new vocabulary and phrases • Improve grammar skills Back
The big talk What Do you need to do? • help your child explore ideas and talk through possible scenarios • Talk about similar stories / films / days out /experiences they can use as stimulus • Ask your children questions about their ideas to help them develop their ideas about their plot , settings and characters • Children bring brief notes in to school to help them remember ideas or key words / phrases they want to use Back
Reading • Aim to read together 4 times per week • Read lots of different books and authors to Enrich their imagination • Ask questions about what they are reading: • do you agree / disagree with the characters actions? Why? • What other story have you read that are similar to this one? Why? • What do you think is going to happen? • Find New words and descriptive phrases to increase your child’s vocabulary • Can they explain the meaning? Back
