Removing Unwanted Items • Sometimes you have a great picture but there is a logo or sign that is distracting within the picture • The Clone Stamp is a great way to remove that distraction • The most important thing to recognize is that you need to clone from different areas in order to get a random and realistic clone

  3. Removing Complicated Objects • Unwanted items that have complicated backgrounds take more effort to erase, but you still have the tools needed to eliminate them • Imagine we want to remove the flag • Some will be easy (the grass area)

  4. Using the Clone Stamp • Use the healing brush the same way you would use the clone stamp • Alt-click on the area to copy, then click and drag on the area to remove • If you try to go over the more complicated background, it will get all smudged

  5. Selecting Before Cloning • Now we want to select the pole using your favourite selection tool (this will make it so you are only changing what is selected, not the background) • Be sure you only get the pole, not the sky or background

  6. Use the Clone Stamp Tool • Now clone directly to the right of the pole (Alt-click) and then erase the similar coloured area on the pole) • You will need to keep sampling different areas to match the background • Play around, if you make a mistake, press undo and try again • Once you are finished, press Ctrl-D to deselect

  7. Using the Healing Brush • Use the Healing brush to remove the flag (the clone stamp simply copies your sample [exactly the same] where the healing brush modifies to look like your sample [similar]) • Use the sky to the upper left and try to match up the colours by sampling different areas

  9. Your Assignment #1 • Open the truck picture in Photoshop • In the Truck, remove all the Chevy Emblems (front grill, side of door, and wheels) • This happens in real life when companies don’t want to spend money to endorse a product that may be in their ad

  10. Your Assignment #2 (Challenging) • Open the Graffiti Picture in Photoshop • You are to remove the graffiti from the wall of the house without disrupting the siding lines • This will take time and zooming in to ensure that it doesn’t look like it was touched up • Submit all 3 pictures (golf, truck, graffiti) by email to me (place them in 1 MS Word document)
