Purpose of chapter/ important events • Purpose: Watson taking notes to give to Holmes about what is going on in Baskerville Hall. • Sir Henry and Miss Stapleton become attracted to each other. • During the night while Watson was sleeping at about two in the morning he was woken from hearing foot steps passing his room. When he opened the door he saw a “long black shadow” that was walking to a room. He was dressed in a shirt and trousers but nothing on his feet. He could barely see the outline of the person but from what Watson saw it looked like Barrymore. • Watson now started to follow him. When he had stopped in the room Barrymore is explained like this : “ this profile was half turned towards” Watson and “his face seemed to be rigid with expectation as he stared out into the blackness of the moor.”
