HIGH SCHOOL • Clean slate • More responsibilities • Grades count! • Poor behavior may be recorded in permanent file
Rigor Increases in High School • As you enter high school it is important to recognize that academic and behavioral expectations will increase. For example: • Less chances to re-do missing or poorly completed work • No second chances on HSA (1 chance each session) • More strict deadlines • You need to do your best the first time! • No Social Promotion • Greater maturity level expected in high school • Preparing for Real World - More individual responsibility is expected academically and behaviorally
A strong start is important • During your high school career you have 32 chances to get 25 specific credits • Falling behind your classmates will place you in classes with underclassmen • Those who fall behind are more likely to drop-out • Don’t dig yourself a hole
Beyond the Bell Instruction • Provides the extra support you need to be successful. • Tutoring opportunities in the four core areas • Transportation if you need to stay after with individual teachers • All subjects • Teachers are very willing to provide extra help, but students have to advocate for themselves and ask for the help • Two buses will run Tuesday and Thursday leaving WHS at 4:00.
