YMCA vs USA (AMS) • YMCA swimming is the largest youth competitive swimming organization in the united states • WPYSL is a swim league within YMCA national • USA swimming is open to any team, and has many exclusive meets and events in which a team must be registered. • AMS (Allegheny Mountain Swimming) is an exclusive league only for this area under USA

  5. YMCA vs USA (AMS) • A YMCA team can swim at USA meets!!! • As long as proper registration and fees are paid • RESY is a USA team (RESY-AM) • YMCA dual meets do not require meets entry or event entry fees • YMCA districts/states/nationals are extremely competitive meets

  6. RESY is an AMS Team • Cost to be AMS on top of YMCA • Cannot just do AMS • Suggested for veteran swimmers and families • The team will be choosing the invites we attend • AMS will be require for any swimmers in black and senior practice groups

  7. WPYSL and seasons • Western Pennsylvania YMCA swim league • Wpysl.org • Winter runs from Sep through Feb/March • Winter is competitive, with 5 dual meets and various invitational and championship meets • Registration cost various by practice group

  8. Meets/Districts/States/Nationals • Dual/Tri Meets • 5 dual meets, no fee to enter. Volunteer time or concession • Limited number of individual and relay entries • Winter is 3/2 for duals and champs • Events are chosen by coach • Scoring and competing based on age: • Up to 8 years old – Novice (Class E) • 9-10 years old – cadet (Class D) • 11-12 years old – prep (Class C) • 13-14 years old – junior (Class B) • 15 – 18 years old – senior (Class A)

Meets/Districts/States/Nationals, cont… • Dual/Tri Meets cont… • Locally there are 18 teams in the WPYSL, we are placed into a conference based on team size and geographic region • Scoring • Individual 7-4-3-2-1, Relays 8-4-2 • Events • Based upon age, complete meet format • Swimming up an age bracket

  14. Registration Fees – New info • Preseason • September 3rd through 27th • $50 per swimmer, regardless of age and ability • Will attend practice according to age first week • 8 & under – Blue • 9 -10 age – Silver • 11-12 age – Black • 13 & up – Senior/Black • Age as of December 1, 2019

Riptide Practice • Winter • Silver • Monday, Wednesday, Friday • Swim 7:00-8:00pm (5 lanes w/black) • Tuesday and Thursday • Swim 6:00-7:00pm, Dryland 7:15-7:45pm • Black • Monday, Wednesday, Friday • Swim 7:00-8:30pm (5 lanes w/silver) • Tuesday and Thursday • Dryland 6:00-6:45pm, Swim 7:00-8:30pm • Senior • Monday, Wednesday, Friday • Swim 3:00-4:30pm, lessons until 5:30pm (MW only) • Tuesday and Thursday • Dryland 6:00-6:45pm, Swim 7:00-8:30pm

Riptide Practice cont… • Practice groups will be determined after time trials • Everyone will be re-evaluated • If minimum requirements are not met, we are introducing level 5 and level 6 lessons taught by coaches and senior swimmers • After passing lessons and making minimum requirements, you can join RESY

Behavior Policy • First day agreement • ZERO TOLERANCE • Locker room cellphones • 1st time = 1 week • 2nd time = 1 month • 3rd time = season • Hitting in a practice or meet – immediate ejection • Continued incidents = more severe consequences • We want to keep everyone safe • Talking to a coach is EXTREMELY encouraged
