  2. One day at school, Peoni’s class had a new student transfer in. He was a mousy-haired, scrawny boy with large glasses and a bad case of acne.

  3. All her classmates whispered about the new transfer as he introduced himself as Soji Matoko. “He’s like a budding dwarf snapdragon, choked by thorns and stones,” Peoni mused.

  4. Other than Peoni, one other student took interest in Soji; the ‘queen’ of Amari High, Safferon Chizuka. Her green eyes glinted with mischief as Soji took his seat next to Peoni.
