A. Assign Study Time 1. Work in a distraction-free area. 2. Study for 2-3 hours. 3. Break material down into pieces a few days before the test. 4. When there’s problems studying: a. Find study group b. Find private tutor c. Go to professor’s office hours d. Find someone who’s already taken the class.
B. Get Plenty Of Sleep 1. Helps people focus better. 2. Helps people remember things better. 3. Give yourself extra time: a. To review material. b. To think about the questions. c. Look through the study guides.
II. Test-Taking Time A. Scan test B. Read all directions carefully
A. Scan Test 1. See which questions are easy or difficult 2. See how many questions there are 3. See what kinds of questions there are
B. Read All Directions Carefully 1. Lessen chances of getting lost, frustrated, and/or confused 2. Increase chances of succeeding and earning a good grade

A. Matching 1. Read directions carefully 2. Count choices in each column. Work with the one that has fewer choices first. 3. Columns may have the same number. Work with the explanations one. They might have clues.
B. Fill-In-The Blanks 1. Read directions carefully 2. Read the 1st statement. If you know the answer, write it down. 3. If you don’t know the answer, skip it and move on. Answers can be found on some statements. 4. Go back to statements that you don’t know and look for keywords. 5. Don’t leave blanks empty. Make a guess. 6. If there’s a word bank, cross out words that are used.
C. True-False 1. Read all directions 2. Often contain clues. Some keywords: ALL, ALWAYS, EVERY, ONLY, NONE, NEVER, SOME, USUALLY, SELDOM, SOMETIMES, PROBABLY,, MAINLY, OFTEN, EXCEPT, RARELY. 3. Look at the sequence of statements. Order of facts determines if it’s true or false. 4. True statement maybe reworded. Positive words replace negative ones or vice versa. 5. Entire statement must be true in order to mark true. If any part of it is false, then mark false.
D. Multiple Choice 1. Read all directions. 2. Read 1st question. Try to predict answer before reading answer choices. 3. Read all choices. Get rid of impossible answers. 4. Choose answer that makes most sense, answers question, and relates to topic and details that were studied. 5. Negative questions seem difficult because facts can be easily recalled in what’s been read. Eliminate these facts. One answer shall remain. 6. Guess if answer is uncertain. 7. If answer sheet is used, make sure right choice and number are recorded properly.
