  12. Community Outreach Activities • Free Eye Camps where surgery, food and accommodation are provided free of cost. • Village Volunteers Programme • School Eye Health Screening • Community Based Rehabilitation Programme • Increasing community involvement • Community eye health education

  13. Base Hospital Approach The patients screened at the camps are transported to the base hospital for surgery - for maximum utilisation of resources and - to maintain high quality.

  14. Selection Criteria for Ophthalmic Assistants Education - 12th (H.S.C) standard Age 17-18 years Experience - Fresh candidates with no work experience Background - Rural, low income

  15. Assessment (Theory and Skills) Specialty training 8 months Structure of the Two Years Training Programme Orientation & Basic training 4 months Out patient Department Optics and Refraction Operating Room Ward Supervised Practical training in specialty( 6 months) Evaluated Independent practice 6 months Final Assessment
