Obesity has become one of the most significant health concerns in developed countries during the last few decades, with the prevalence of obesity increasing among adolescents. Obesity and overweight are implicated in a disturbing array of health problems among the youngest and most vulnerable members of our society.
Definition of obesity Physiologically, obesity actually refers to excess fat or adipose tissue, not necessarily excess weight.
to measure weights we used BMIwhich defined as weight in kg/ (height in m)2.
Obesity is spreading more among adolescence in developed countries around the world. Hereupon adolescence is a developmental transition between childhood and adulthood entailing major physical ,physiological ,cognitive ,and psychosocial changes. So, adolescent stage is a time of changing lifestyles and food habits which affect nutritional needs.
The effect of obesity on lifestyle Thehealthy life style needs behavioral modification techniques through changing in diet and exercise. Through which interaction between personal qualities , social and economic situation and environmental surrounding the person occurs.
Aim of study The aim is to assess the lifestyle among obese adolescent females. Research question; • What is the assess of the lifestyle among obese adolescent females?
Adolescence can be divided into three stages:- Early adolescence (11-14 years of age) Middle adolescence (15-17 years of age) Lateadolescence (18-21 years of age) (Flegal KM. Significance of the Study • Obesity can lead high morbidity and mortality of adolescents; it contributes to increased health costs for families and health care system. • Health habits and lifestyles established in adolescence are likely to continue throughout life, and obese adolescents tend to be obese adults. • Therefore, identification the assess of lifestyle among obese adolescent is essential for community health nurses. This information my help the nurses to develop educative counseling programs to overcome the problem of obesity.
design PERIOUD OF STUDY The time was three months for the study. starting from January to March. 2010 Descriptive research design.
SAMPLE SIZE Random sample technique was used to select 250 female subjects aging from 13-21 years
Steps of data collection • The review was read. • The questionnaire items was Collected. • The questionnaire was developed. • Then the questionnaire was given to 7 of faculties in our department to measure the validity of contents. • Modification was done according to faculties comments. • The questionnaire was distributed after taking oral consent from subjects, through e-mails, in university and school.
Cont… • 250 questionnaires was distributed through e-mails, in the university and school. • Ensure that the subjects complete answering their questionnaires. • 20 questionnaires was excluded because it’s incomplete. • 230 answered questionnaires was collected from the subjects. • Then use BMI ,obese samples are selected.
data analysis The Statistical tools applied; 1-Percentage. 2-Chi-Square Test. Percentage; The earliest method used in analysis is percentage methods. Percentage =No. of respondents for each response. * 100 Total No. of respondents. -
Chi-Square Test(X2); The X2 test is one of the simplest and most widely used non-parametric test in statistical work. The formula used to find out the X2 value is X2= O E Where O stand for Observed Frequency. E stand for Expected Frequency.
Percentage of obesity effect on the ability to performing activity daily living
The data indicated that the highest weight classes is 96 of obese and normal weight, and the lowest weight classes is 38 of under weight. • Most of obese members assuring that obesity has negative effect on their lifestyles. • The most habits of subjects are watching TV during eat and sleeping immediately after eat.
As the school environment have a strong influence over adolescent to modify their nutritional habits. • Healthy learning eating messages should be provided through the national curriculum obesity and applied on school board agendas. • Instruct the schools and universities to make physical activity program.
Cont… • Advice the obese adolescents to do a periodical medical examinations as doctor recommended. • Instruct the family to monitor there adolescent food habits. • Advice them to avoid sleeping directly after a finishing their meals.
