  3. The recovery of material evidence remaining from the past. What is ArchAeology?

  4. Location: Southeast Virginia near Nottoway River Humans lived there as early as 15,000 years ago. One of the oldest sites in North America Cactus Hill

  6. Your team of archaeologists have just discovered the ancient site of Jadetopolis and recovered an artifact. • Your team must carefully sift through the dirt to not destroy the precious artifact. • Along with your team, reconstruct the pieces of the ancient artifact

Get into your groups: Assign every person a role (Writer, Sifter, Brusher, Compiler) With your group go to any station on the ground Carefully open the plastic bag and pour the contents of the bag in the sifting tray Use the paint brushes to carefully remove the dirt from the pieces See if you can put the pieces back together to its original form After cleaning up and putting the contents back into the plastic bag, get into your groups and answer the follow up questions Lets excavate!

  8. Writer – Writes the answers for the group Sifter – Pours the bag of dirt into the sifting tray and assists with finding the pieces Brusher – Uses the brush to clean the pieces off Compiler – Along with the writer helps put the artifact together GROUP JOBS
