The mission of the Corporation for National and Community Service is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering.
Leverages volunteers ages 55 and older to meet pressing community needs • Participants are part time with the commitment determined by the volunteer • Sponsoring agencies include local nonprofits and city government agencies • Volunteers do not receive a stipend • Volunteers have a variety of skill levels • Program directors have the opportunity to partner with local agencies on a variety of projects Senior Corps - RSVP
AmeriCorps VISTA • The poverty-fighting branch of AmeriCorps • VISTA work is indirect service: sustainable and capacity-building • Members commit to one year of full-time service • Nonprofit organizations run projects that last an average of three years • Members receive a living allowance and the choice of an Education Award or Stipend upon service completion
