The Elements Of A Narrative A narrative is a story which includes a plot, setting, atmosphere, characters, theme, point of view, and literary devices. Some of my favorite narratives are “Legend,” “The Hunger Games Trilogy,” and “The Alchemist.”
Conflict: Human vs. human, Human vs. Self • Problem: Billy must go and work in the pit • Solution: Billy runs away • Beginning: Quick summary of “last book,” Billy remembers Kes • Middle: Plot
Town: Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England and Surrounding Forests • Time: 1969 • Weather Conditions: Cloudy, dark • Social conditions: very cheep behavior • Mood and Atmosphere: very dark, sad, sorrowful atmosphere around Billy Setting
Characters: • Protagonist: Billy Casper • Antagonist: Jud Casper • Other Characters: Mr. Farthing, Youth Employment Officer Characters
Mood of story: Sad, evil. • Feeling aroused by reader: luck, happiness of not having to be Billy, Sorrow Atmosphere
Theme: Unjust • The essay talks about how the larger human in the house is physically dominant, and the feeling that if something bothers you, get away from it Theme

Flashback- at the beginning/middle, Billy flashes back to the old times with Kes around • Foreshadowing: at the beginning, there is a idea of running away raised, and the story did end that way. • Simile: One simile stated in second paragraph Literary Devices
