Conflict • Conflict is a struggle between opposing forces • External Conflict • Struggle between a character between a character and an outside force. • Internal Conflict • Struggle taking place in a character’s mind. Example: Character might have to decide between what is right and what is wrong.

Point of View Review • 1st Person POV: Narrator is part of the story • 2nd Person POV: the reader is part of the story, usually directions
Point of View Review • 3rd Person: Narrator is NOT part of the story • Objective: the narrator does not tell the thoughts & feelings any characters • Limited: the narrator tells the thoughts & feelings only one character • Omniscient: the narrator tells the thoughts & feelings of more than one character

Plot • Plot is the organized pattern or sequence of events that make up a story. • Every plot is made up of a series of related events.

1. Exposition • Usually near the beginning of any story characters are introduced. • Setting is described. • Background information may be given. • The initial situation is introduced. • There may be some foreshadowing.
2. Rising Action(Complications) • This part of the story begins to develop the conflict(s). • A building of interest or suspense occurs.

3. Climax • This is the turning point of the story. • It presents the decisive event or action that determines the outcome of the conflict. • It is the point in the story when the reader understands how the conflict will be resolved. • The main character will usually change in some way.

4. Falling Action • This part includes events that develop from the climax and lead to the conclusion.
5. Resolution • The story comes to a reasonable ending. • Major conflict is settled. The protagonist resolves conflict with antagonist. • Includes the last events that conclude the plot and completely “un-knot” the conflict.
