  2. Lung cancer can be described as a disease that consists of uncontrolled growth of cells in tissues of the lung. While the normal lung tissue cells reproduce and form healthy lung tissue, these abnormal cells reproduce rapidly and do not grow into normal lung tissue.

  3. The lumps of cancer cells also known as tumors develop and disturb the proper functioning of the lungs. Major symptoms associated with this disease include shortness of breath, coughing (including coughing up blood), and weight loss. Lung cancer is mainly caused due to carcinogens which are present in tobacco smoke, ionizing radiation, and viral infection.

  4. Lung cancers are classified as per the histological which has some important implications for clinically managing and diagnosing the disease. Majority of lung cancers are carcinomas and arise from epithelial cells.

  5. The two most common histological types of lung carcinoma, characterized by the size and appearance of the malignant cells include non-small-cell and small-cell lung carcinoma. The non-small cell lung cancer is the most prevalent form and accounts for about 75-80 percent of lung cancers. It can be further classified into Epidermoid carcinoma, Adenocarcinoma, Bronchioalveolar carcinoma and Large-cell undifferentiated carcinoma.

  6. Small cell lung cancer on the other hand accounts for 20 percent of all lung cancers. In order to improve the chances of survival, it is highly important to detect the disease early. Various tests used to diagnose lung cancer include physical examination, chest examination, chest X-ray, CT scan, PET scan, MRI, Sputum cytology, Bronchoscopy, Biopsy and more.

  7. Dr. Anil Potti is a renowned clinician and Oncologist from the United States. Over the years, he has gained popularity for providing care to patients suffering from cancer. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery (M.B.B.S) in 1995 from the Christian Medical College & Hospital, Vellore, India.

  8. DR. Potti is Board Certified in Medical oncology and he received his Fellowship Training in Hematology and Oncology from Duke University in 2006. Initially, Dr. Anil Potti wanted to become a general medical physician but one of his personal experiences led him to the field of oncology. He has made significant contributions in several developed programs in lung cancer.

  9. Dr. Anil Potti also believes in working for the welfare of the society and regularly donates his time and money to the local school system and the local church.
