  2. Why is it famous? • Lexington is famous because the battle that took place there was the signal of the start of the American Revolution.

  3. Let’s talk about Lexington • Lexington is a city in Massachusetts • It has a sister city that is Concord, MA • The British had to go through Lexington to get to Concord to seize and destroy militia weapons and ammunition

  4. The Battle…. The morning of April 19, 1775, the British soldiers arrive at Lexington, Massachusetts. Their mission was to seize and destroy militia weapons and ammunition, but the local militia known as the minutemen stood on the green.

  5. The Battle…. During the standoff somebody fired a shot (known as “The Shot Heard Around The World”), which led the British to fire on the colonial militia. The minutemen then dispersed, and the British headed for Concord.

  6. Revere’s Ride On Tuesday, April 18, 1775, Dr. Joseph Warren sent for Paul Revere and William Dawes Jr. to ride to Lexington and warn of the march of the British. He said he will put up one lantern in the old north church if the British were coming by land, and 2 lanterns if they were coming by sea.
