SUFFERING. WHY?. 1.) The World becomes less attractive 1 Pet 2:11; Heb 13:14; 2 Cor 5:1,5 What is there was no suffering? The world loses its attraction Suffering can bring out the best 2) Can it give an opportunity to silence the enemies of God?

  2. WHY? 1.) The World becomes less attractive 1 Pet 2:11; Heb 13:14; 2 Cor 5:1,5 What is there was no suffering? The world loses its attraction Suffering can bring out the best 2) Can it give an opportunity to silence the enemies of God? 3) It helps us to be more appreciative – Phil 1:3-8 4) It makes us more dependent on God – Acts 17:28 5) It helps purify us – 1 Pet 1:6-7; James 1:2-5 6) Makes us more sympathetic – 2 Cor 1:3-4; Rom 12:15 7) Teaches us how to pray – Rom 8:26

WHO / WHAT CAUSES IT? • May be the result of our own actions • May be the work of Satan – Job 1:6-12; 2:1-6; 1Pet 5:8-9 • Why does God allow Satan to test us so? – 2 Cor 12:7-10;Jm 1:2-4 • Satan has his limits – 1 Cor 10:13 • May be the chastisement of God – Taught in both testaments • Deut 8:5; Pro 3:11-12; Rev 3:19 • Why? To correct - Heb 12:9; Partakers of His holiness – 12:10-11 • When would this happen? When we don’t correct ourselves • 1 Cor 11:31-32 • How does God chasten?

  4. CAN WE PREPARE FOR IT? • Develop a trust in God – He is with His children in their troubles • Psa 46:1-3; Rom 8:35-39 • Prayer – James 5:13 • Develop our Christian friendships – Eccl 4:9-12; 1 Cor 12: 24-27;1 Thess 5:14
