  1. Dare to be a Daniel Prepared By Robert C. Archer

  2. Why didn’t he yield? • He Purposed in his Heart • Daniel 1:8 8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

  3. Why didn’t he yield? • He Refused to Compromise His Convictions • As a young man, by refusing to eat the king's meat or drink his wine (Dan. 1) • As an old man, by refusing Belshazzar’s gifts (Dan. 5)

  4. Why didn’t he yield? • He Refused to Compromise His Convictions • Under the threat of persecution, by refusing to obey the decree of Darius • Daniel 6:10 (NKJV) 10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.

  5. Why didn’t he yield? • He had an excellent spirit • Daniel 6:3 3 Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm.

  6. Why didn’t he yield? • He was a man of Purity (Dan. 6:1-4) • How could he remain pure in a place like that? • By praying that he might not get into situations where he could be overcome • Matthew 6:13 (NKJV) 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

  7. Why didn’t he yield? • How could he remain pure in a place like that? • By knowing that if you play with fire you’ll get burned • Proverbs 6:27 (NKJV) 27 Can a man take fire to his bosom, And his clothes not be burned?

  8. Why didn’t he yield? • How could he remain pure in a place like that? • By looking for the way of escape that God provides with every temptation • 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV) 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

  9. Why didn’t he yield? • He was man of Prayer • Daniel 6:10 10 …And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.

  10. Why didn’t he yield? • Prayer • Brings us closer to God (Matt. 26:36-46) • Makes us have a right attitude toward others • Matthew 5:44 (NKJV) 44 "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,

  11. Why didn’t he yield? • Prayer • Gives us boldness to do right • Acts 4:31 (NKJV) 31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

  12. Daniel was victorious because he cared about God, others and himself.

  13. Who do you/I care about?
