Dare To Be A Paul Text: Acts 20:22-24 Scripture Reading: Rev. 21:1-7
Intro Paul warned the elders of Ephesus at Miletus of the dangers and apostasy they would face, encouraged them to remain faithful, and bid them farewell for he knew he would not see them again (Acts 20:16-38) Acts 20:22-24 (NKJ) 22. And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, 23. except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me. 24. But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. Fleshly Desires Rom. 7:22-23 22. Paul was determined to not let fleshly desires keep him from his eternal prize–I Cor. 9:27 • Paul gives us the means to overcome fleshly desires: • He listed the works of the flesh so we can identify them – Gal. 5:19-21 • He let us know we are to hate evil and abstain from the very appearance of it – Rom. 12:9; I Thess. 5:22 There are those who let fleshly desires move them away from God! Standing Alone Paul knew what it was like to face opposition within the church and desertion of fellow Christians II Tim. 4:16 16. But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fully accomplished, and that all the Gentiles might hear; and I was rescued out of the lion's mouth. • Even if we feel all alone, • God is with us • II Tim. 4:17; Mt. 28:20; Heb. 13:5-6 We must remember a majority doesn’t make a thing right!
