Exercise 1 BEFORE YOU WATCH What is your definition of beauty? When is something or someone beautiful to you? Do you have different standards of beauty for different kinds of experiences? (e.g. works of art, photographs, nature, people, animals…) How did your ideas of beauty form? Are they based on philosophy, family, society, culture, friends, media, etc.? Have your ideas of what and who is beautiful changed at all in your life? Explain. Who are some men and women that you consider beautiful? How do you feel about yourself in relationship to them? What are the positives and negatives about being a beautiful looking person in the society today? Look at the following list: plastic surgery, rejuvenation, botox, cellulite, weight reduction, anorexia, liposuction. How are these terms linked with the health risks of people trying to look beautiful?

Explain. • What other kinds of social attitudes are conditioned about physical appearance? How do they vary from culture to culture? • Go back to the script and outline the features of these areas the company is operating in: • Medical and beauty aspects • Business and service aspects
