Living in cold, damp conditions contributes to illness such as respiratory infections (pneumonia, bronchitis, influenza), premature heart disease, strokes, asthma and falls
6. Accidents in the home The cost to society of home accidents in the UK is estimated as £25 billion a year.
Public Health Target – reduce death rates from accidents in the home by at least one fifth and reduce the rate of serious injury from accidents by one tenth by 2010
Priority attention – children, young adults and older people
7. Homelessness Homelessness has major affects on health – chronic chest or breathing problems, skin complaints, high attempts of suicide, higher rates of accidents, drink or drug addiction and an overall lower life expectancy.
