BRIEF PRESENTATION THE MARECOM MATTRESS 2011 Trademar, Inc. Direct: +1 (215) 665-8166 / Fax: +1 (215) 665-1929 terry.dougherty@trademar.us
”The Marecom Mattress”long-term economical benefits Marecom AS PROTECTION OF MARITIME INSTALLATIONS A Norwegian Ltd, which has developed a new method of securing maritime installations and off-shore projects against erosion.Co-operating with Indian partners (GPT).Production in India (Marecom/GPT). Global market Patent!
”The Marecom Mattress” product • MAritime • Multi purpose functions, and constructed to comply with the strongest maritime recommendations • REinforced • Unique and patented flexible reinforcement construction. • COncrete • The mattress is filled with optimized concrete, where the concrete composition is adapted to the specific application and environment. • Mattress • Mattress produced by materials adapted to extreme applications/areas.
Construction and behavior -FLEXIBLE WIRE REINFOREMENT -ADAPTS TO SOIL CONTOURS /TERRAIN -ANTI CORROSION CONSTRUCTION PANELS/FORMWORK: - FABRIC FORMED - STRONG PVC-MATERIAL - STRENGHTENED BY OUTSIDE FIBRE BANDS AND INSIDE DISTANCE DEVICES -REINFORCEMENT CENTERED AND COVERED BY CONCRETE VALVES: CONCRETE FILLED ON SITE EVACUATING AIR
Product applications- examples • Covering ”maritime pollution” • Ship wreck’s, nuclear submarines, discarded offshore constructions, port basin pollution etc • Securing: • Depots, e.g. sea reclamation projects • Foundations, protection and weight (oil- and gas pipe lines, cables etc) • Platform legs, -splashing-zone” • Dike’s (e.g. Holland), land reclamations etc • Areas/regions exposed to floods and inundation • Areas exposed to the danger of land slide • Etc. • Protecting maritime installations against erosion • Breakwaters and similar constructions • Foundations and quay piles, preventing impairment caused by erosion from propellers ( turbulence) • Etc.
A challenge from thrusters-restrictions in many European ports • Large vessels usually equip a bow thruster for effective ship operation. If the bow thruster is used when the vessel leaves a berth, the vessel can turn round easily. • However, a bow thruster generates a strong current which may cause a local scour in front of a quay wall. The local scour in front of the quay wall may affect its stability, and therefore a use of the bow thruster is often restricted.
Applications - examples FERRY QUAY – SVOLVÆR, NORWAY
Recommended by National Ferry Authorities and shipping lines ”….fast on-field installation and usable operational stops influences economic performance.” “……suitable product..... securing break-waters, erosion control, quay protection, covering land deposits and underwater “pollution” ….” ”….exposed to powerful propeller turbulence ….situated as installed…excellent protection…..”
Applications - examples BREAKWATERS AND BEACH EROSION If required; use GRIP Neutralizing the energy from the waves and the bottom currents Completed break-water – 100% resistant
Applications - examples BEACH EROSION & RIVERS/CANALS
Applications - examples COVERING WRECKS & UNDER-WATER ”POLLUTION”
Applications - examples COVERING SHIPWRECKS INCLUDING CONTROLLING OIL LEAKS & POLLUTION VALVE(S) FOR PERIODIC CONTROL AND REMOVAL OF OIL POLUTION THE MARECOM MATTRESS
Applications - examples Offshore platform legs – splashing zone protection Max indicated wave conditions Splashing zone (exposed to erosion) Max tide Tide variation Min. tide(LAT) Same principle could be applied for wind mills, various piles etc
MARECOM APPLICATIONS COVERING PIPELINES – WEIGHT & PROTECTION VALVES: CONCRETE EVACUATING FILLED ON SITE AIR REMOVING FOR MAINTENANCE Alt 1: Permanent Alt 2: Removeable
Competition? In reality none, But substitutes
Basic/standard Marecom-mattress • The “standard” mattress has the following characteristics: • Flexible, reinforced and strengthened • Size: 11 m. x 22 m (TBD) • Minimum thickness: 0,23 m. • Weight: ca 140 tons (measured in open air) • Stability: Resistant to 1,5 m. significant waves without any foundations/anchorages • Can be produced in different dimensions, thicknesses, weights and concrete specifications (depending on applications) • Fast on-site installation (1 day 3 weeks) • Long life time (75-150 years, -minimum)
The Marecom mattress can be produced in different styles, sizes and qualities • Marecom mattress – heavy weight • High Density Concrete • Weight 110% - 140% heavier than standard concrete • Marecom mattress – light reinforcement • Projects less exposed to external conditions • Strength compared with standard mattress (30 %) • Marecom mattress – not reinforced • Projects less exposed to external conditions • Alternative formwork and without outside strengthening • Marecom mattress - units • concrete structures which replace heavy rip rap and large precast concrete units • Recommended size 1-1,5 m3 • Customer specified • Depending on customers specifications
