Veterans Preference and Rights • As a veteran, you may be eligible for veterans preference regarding open, outside, competitive positions that are scored and ranked. • Our policy prohibits discrimination or unfair treatment toward any veterans, including Vietnam Era and disabled veterans. • Supervisors or employers cannot discriminate against people in the armed forces, active or reservists.
Examples of Veterans discrimination • Employers making blanket statements that all Vietnam Veterans were drug users or crazy. • Employers denying a veteran employment, training, or other work related projects because of past, present or future military obligations. • Employers denying employment based on reservist/national guard duty.
Legal Authority • Veterans Era Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974 (38 U.S.C. 4212) • 41 CFR 60-250 (OFCCP) • UNR discrimination policy
