Overall: demonstrate benefits of work hour regulation
This is the list of objectives to be addressed. The biggest ones that the presentation will cover are the effects of sleep deprivation and the recent policy changes.
The overarching goal of the talk however is to demonstrate why RWH regulations are a good thing. Now that the ACMGE has enacted RWH regulations, there will be a long period of adjustment and criticism, the loudest of which come from within the medical community. This presentation is aimed at reminding medical students why RWH regulations are a positive step, despite the short-term growing pains.This is the list of objectives to be addressed. 5. Recent Policy Changes July 1, 2003: Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) RWH regulations went into effect
Limits work hours to 80 hours/week, averaged over 4 weeks
Feb 2004: Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) student work hour rules went into effect
Mandates that students should not work longer than residents The ACGME is the accrediting body of residency programs
