  2. Journal #1 What is the town of Maycomb like? • Describe the town. • Include a discussion of what the people of Maycomb are like. • Give examples from the book to support your statements about the town.

  3. Optional Journal #1 “You never understand a person until you consider things from his point of view” AND In some cases it is okay to bend the law for certain people in certain situations. Do you agree with these statements? Explain why in an argument that uses real life examples.

  4. Journal #2 Write about a time when you experienced one of the following: • a house fire • the first time you saw snow • kindness from an unexpected source • defending a family member • taking a stand against racism ½ page

  5. Journal #3 What is your opinion of these key figures in the trial: -Heck Tate -Robert Ewell -MayellaEwell -Tom Robinson -Judge Taylor -Atticus Finch Support your opinion with at least one example from the trial scene. ½ page minimum

  6. Journal #4 Racism and Prejudice:  Where have you seen or experienced racism and/or prejudice?  Consider any slight or great incident of racism. Tell what happened.  And, discuss your opinion of the incident. Also, what are your thoughts on the causes of and the solutions to racism.  Minimum: ½ page.

  7. Journal #5 Retell a memorable Halloween. OR Write about costumes that you have worn. ½ page

  8. Journal #6 Bob Ewell didn’t just fall on a knife. Reread p. 274-276 and answer these questions: • Exactly how did Bob Ewell die? • How could it not have been Jem? • Who did it? • Why does Heck Tate want to protect this person? • Why does Atticus go along with this lie? Support your answer with discussion of Chp. 30 and at least one direct quotation.
