Insecticides Herbicides Fungicides Rodenticides Bactericides Algaecides Avicides Pesticides • Substances used to destroy, repel, or otherwise prevent damage by pests • Pesticides include:
Pesticides can.. • Accumulate in the air, soil, surface water, and groundwater • Affect untargeted plants and animals You must use pesticides properly to prevent or minimize the risk of environmental exposure!
Self-help Pest Control Methods • Contact DOFE-E or see the KSARNG Integrated Pest Management Plan for a specific list of allowed self-help pest control methods • KSARNG personnel can use allowed self-help methods without prior approval
Self-help Pest Control Products • Mechanical traps and glue boards for insects and rodents • Bait for ants or cockroaches • Aerosol insecticides • Fly swatters • Repellents • Insecticide dusts for cockroach control
Common Chemical Pesticides • Liquid herbicides (Round-Up, Durisban) • Rat poison (Warfarin) • Wasp spray (Raid, Black Flag) • Mothballs • Gopher bait (Gopher-Getter)
Pesticide Applications • All pesticide applications (other than self-help) made on KSARNG properties must be approved by DOFE-E • Includes local contractors • Must be in accordance with the Integrated Pest Management Plan • Any facility or activity that requires pest control should first contact the Pest Management Coordinator (PMC) at DOFE-E
KSARNG Pesticide Reports and Records • ECOs must maintain records of all pest management operations performed by maintenance personnel, contractors, and self-help • Daily pesticide application and surveillance records are maintained using DD Form 1532-1, Pest Management Maintenance Record • Used to provide a permanent historical record of pest management operations
Pesticide Labels • Must specify ingredients, warnings, and registrations • Use the labels and MSDSs to get information for safe storage, use, and disposal
PPE • Comply with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements specified on the label or MSDS • Unless otherwise specified, minimum PPE for pesticide application is: • Chemical resistant gloves, aprons, and boots • Full-face shield • Splash goggles • Respirators approved for use with the pesticide spilled • Work uniform or coveralls
