Adulthood • Married Marquise Florent-Claude Chastellet on The 20th of June in 1725. • He was named govenor of Semuren Auxois in Burgundy and had little time to spend with Gabrielle-Emilie Madame la Marquise du Chastellet.
du Chastellet’s husband supported her pursuit of knowledge and encouraged her to expand upon her knowledge. • Du Chastellet favored philosophy science and mathematics.
Around 1734, Du Chastellet met Voltaire who gave her the nick name Emilie du Chatelet. • Du Chatelet had already had many lovers by this time including her math tutor Pierre Louis Maupertuis(see right).
